The ADA Board of Trustees, in consultation with Speaker of the House W. Mark Donald, made the decision June 24 out of consideration for the health and safety of House members, staff and visitors, following careful deliberation, research and input from House members through a survey.

"Unfortunately, it became apparent that many delegates would be unable or unwilling to attend an in-person House meeting," ADA President Chad P. Gehani said in a message to ADA members and staff. "The risk of a resurgence of the pandemic in autumn could further jeopardize attendance of House members. The Board concluded that a virtual House meeting will assure maximum participation with minimum risk. Based on research and observation of virtual meetings conducted by various state societies and other associations, the Board is confident that the ADA can conduct a successful House meeting virtually."

The House will meet Oct. 16-19, as originally scheduled. There may be slight adjustments to the schedule to accommodate members' needs. Dr. Donald will work with the Election Commission and candidates for ADA office to ensure House members are informed for officer elections, Dr. Gehani said.

The Board previously voted June 12 to cancel the ADA FDC Annual Meeting as an in-person gathering in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ADA and Florida Dental Association are exploring virtual options for the annual meeting.
